Bacillus subtilis


Under dual control of Spo0A~P and σA the spoIIG locus is transcribed 97, 99 consisting of spoIIGA, sigE (spoIIGB) and sigG (spoIIIG). σE is synthesized in an inactive state called pro-σE and requires both SpoIIGA and forespore-specific SpoIIR for activation 99, 100 (also see COMMITMENT section). Pro-σE resides in the cytoplasmic membrane where it awaits proteolytic cleavage 101, 102.
