AbrB Pre-sporulation stage - |
AbrB in the vegetative state
The transition state transcription regulator AbrB is expressed during vegetative growth by dual EσA RNAP promoters. AbrB controls premature stress-induced cellular adaptation, such as sporulation and competence, by binding to the upstream regions of many genes involved in such processes. It also autoregulates its own expression by binding to its own promoter region and in this way controls the concentration of AbrB protein in the cell 9, 10. Next to its predominant role as a repressor, it also activates a small subset of genes, including the gene for transition state regulator ScoC 11.
